When Magic Shields Founder and CEO Hiroshi Shimomura was working as an engineer with the factory racing team at Yamaha Motor, his world revolved around precision, speed, and survival. He helped develop technologies that allowed elite motorcycle racers to land safely from enormous jumps — trusting that the right engineering could absorb shock, reduce injury, and preserve performance.
What he didn’t know at the time was that this same approach — distribute force, soften impact, protect the body — would one day help protect older adults from fall-related injuries that often lead to irreversible health decline.
Hiroshi’s curiosity led him beyond the racetrack and into the world of traditional Japanese ingenuity. He studied Mizugumo (水蜘蛛) — an ancient ninja technology that allowed people to walk on swamps by distributing body weight evenly. This principle of surface distribution would become a cornerstone of the material science behind Magic Shields’ patented flooring.
Combining his racing background with time-tested ideas of weight balance and pressure distribution, Hiroshi developed a completely new type of flooring: soft only when needed — like magic.
The result of years of research and development, Magic Shields is a breakthrough floor system designed to cushion falls only at the moment of impact — allowing users to walk, roll, or stand freely without noticing any difference during normal movement underfoot.
This innovation tackles one of the most persistent and devastating problems in healthcare, particularly among the elderly: hip, wrist, and forearm fractures from falls, as well as head injuries.
Every aspect of our work is rooted in this simple but powerful belief. We envision a society where no one becomes permanently disabled by a single misstep. Where families are spared the emotional and financial toll of caregiving caused by preventable injury. Where elders can age in place with dignity, safety, and freedom.
Over 1,000 care facilities around the world already use Magic Shields technology.
